No. 17 UCLA Rowing Cruises Past San Diego State - March 17, 2007 Los Angeles - The No. 17-ranked UCLA women's rowing team continued its strong spring season by sweeping the visiting San Diego State Aztecs at Ballona Creek in Marina del Rey, Calif., on Saturday, March 17. The Bruins' six boats finished ahead of SDSU in all five races. Fourth race was the second varsity 8+ race. The SDSU boat enjoyed a fast start. Once both boats settled into their cadence, the Bruins proved to be too efficient for the Aztecs. The Bruins employed powerful rowing at an aggressive pace to pull ahead midway through the race. UCLA recorded a strong time of 6:52.60 to finish ahead of the Aztecs at 7:10.80. The varsity eights hit the water for the final competition of the meet. Firing off strong right from the start, UCLA opened up a significant lead that they extended throughout by sticking to their race plan. A vigorous crowd, strong race plan, and intense effort from the UCLA varsity rowers resulted in a finish of 6:41.40. The Aztecs came through the finish line in 7:03..

UCLA Rowing to Kick Off Spring Season Against Loyola Marymount - March 7, 2007 Los Angeles - The UCLA women's rowing team opens its 2007 spring season versus Loyola Marymount on Saturday, March 10 in Marina del Rey, Calif. The Bruins will enter two varsity eight boats, two varsity four boats and two novice crews against the Lions. Saturday's season-opening race will take place at Ballona Creek - the facility in Marina del Rey, Calif., serves as a home venue for both UCLA's and Loyola Marymount's rowing programs. UCLA's first race this Saturday will begin at 8:45 a.m (women's novice 8+). The women's varsity 8+ race will take place at 10 a.m. Last season, each of UCLA's three boats defeated Loyola Marymount on March 11, 2006. The Bruins' varsity eight posted a time of 6 minutes, 43.80 seconds, finishing 8.5 seconds ahead of the Lions (6:52.30). UCLA's second varsity eight finished in 6:42.70, more than 30 seconds ahead of Loyola Marymount (7:16.20). The Bruins' novice eight posted a time of 7:02.00, finishing 12.40 seconds before the Lions' boat (7:14.40).
